How do arcade games and basketball create the perfect match? Basketball is a great game that is loved around the country and even around the world. Sometimes, however, you are in the mood to play a bit of basketball, but you really aren’t in the mood for some serious exercise. This is where arcade games come into play.
Perhaps when you were a kid you were the recipient of one of those handheld
basketball games, all made from plastic, which allowed you to use a lever to
“throw” a ball into a basket, usually one of five. Each basket had a different
value and the goal was to get the ball into the basket with the highest point
value. We have come a long way away from those hand-held games, and arcade games
allow you to get a bit of basketball play that is more like the real thing.
One of the most common arcade basketball games are the kind that you see at
carnivals, churches and game rooms. This game, some are called Pop-a-Shot, has a
regulation sized basked mounted on a board with netting on each side. The player
is able to take a certain amount of shots based on an electronic timer with an
electronic score board keeping track of how many shots the player makes. This
fun game is always a great crowd pleaser and is great for fund-raisers as well
as a permanent money-making feature in many locations.
One of the appealing things about arcade basketball games is that they can be
purchased as single or multi line games. If competition is the name of the game,
you can purchase systems that have five hoops divided by nets to allow players
the ability to try to beat other players. At carnivals, the winner typically
wins a prize, such as a stuffed animal for their trouble.
An additional benefit for these arcade games is the ability to increase free
throwing skills. Because of the time constraints, it teaches players to throw
accurately at a very quick pace. This arcade system is ideal for a situation
where a team or player does not have access to a court or hoop regularly. For a
player, honing all of their skills is priority number one.
Of course, for those of you who want to have this arcade fun at home, there are
smaller versions for the home. They are available in affordable less
sophisticated versions that require you to keep your own score, or if you want
to spend a lot of money, you can get a professional quality arcade basketball
game in a more compact version for your home.
For those of you who prefer a less physical approach to arcade basketball games,
there are arcade games that pit you against other electronic players that only
requires that you have dexterity with a joy stick and the ability to push the
right buttons. This kind of play will not improve our basketball game like some
of the more classic versions of arcade basketball games but it is great fun and
can teach you a lot about the sport during the playing process.
